Family Dentistry

Keeping your teeth healthy from the inside out. Teeth can seem fine on the surface even when they are decaying underneath. By the time you realise there is a problem, there may be only one course of action left, instead of the many options you might have had if you had only caught the problem sooner. That is why at Alma Dental we like to primarily focus on preventative care. Detecting problems before they happen is far less costly and easier to manage than treating diseased teeth. When you come for an initial consultation, we'll discuss all the options with you. We like our clients to take an active role in their treatment, so please feel free to ask all the questions you need to - they are your teeth after all!

Restorative Treatment

Restorative treatment is, as the name implies, treatment to restore your mouth and gums to health. It can involve a number of different treatments including, for example, implants, crowns, veneers and root canal work. Any restorative treatment is only undertaken after we've explained what the problem is and discussed all the options with you.

Preventative Treatment

Preventing problems occurring, rather than treating them as they arise, is what preventative care is all about. A simple routine of brushing and cleaning between teeth to remove plaque, plus good eating habits and regular dental check-ups, can help prevent most dental problems. A few small lifestyle changes are very simple to make in your daily routine and can make a big difference in the long run, as can regular visits to a dental hygienist who will examine your teeth for signs of decay and gum disease, before giving them a thorough professional clean. All teeth are different; some people, for example, are more prone to gum problems than others, and this is where our hygienist can advise you on how to treat your teeth at home.

Visit your dentist as often as recommended, try to have less sugary and acidic food, and avoid snacking between meals as this limits the time your teeth are under attack from acids. Chewing sugar-free gum for ten minutes after meals helps to neutralise acids. Your dentist and hygienist will show you which areas you need to take most care of when cleaning your teeth.
